The Experimental Center for Public Health and Preventive Medicine of Zhengzhou University was established in 1998 as the Experimental Teaching Center of the School of Public Health of Henan Medical University. According to the characteristics of public health and preventive medicine teaching practice, in 2008, the experimental teaching center carried out effective integration of resources and management system reform. Driven by the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education and the construction of the provincial and ministerial joint construction projects, the ability and level of experimental teaching have been further improved through the construction of software and hardware, and an experimental teaching system with its own characteristics has been formed. In 2009, it was approved as the construction unit of Henan Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and in 2013, it was approved as the construction unit of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center; In 2023, it will be approved as a public health virtual simulation center in Henan Province. The National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Public Health and Preventive Medicine has become a modern experimental teaching technical support platform with the characteristics of public health and preventive medicine with advanced experimental teaching concepts, complete management systems, good teaching environment, advanced instruments and equipment, and perfect services.

The center has a number of complete types of preventive medicine experimental teaching instruments and equipment with advanced level at home and abroad; Including more than 2,000 sets of instruments and equipment such as physical and chemical analysis, environmental testing, cell biology and molecular biology, human function measurement, mathematical and statistical analysis, including 250 sets of equipment with more than 10,000 yuan and a total value of more than 2,600 yuan, which basically meets the needs of preventive medicine experimental teaching and research such as population health investigation and analysis, cell and molecular biology experiments, environmental and occupational health evaluation, food and poison safety evaluation, public health emergency response, etc.

The experimental teaching of preventive medicine undertaken by the center is a professional experimental teaching with comprehensive and innovative experimental teaching as the main body. It has the characteristics of a wide range of experimental technology fields, a large disciplinary span, high experimental technology requirements, a large proportion of experimental teaching, many projects involved, and few repetitions. Relying on the national first-class undergraduate majors of preventive medicine, national characteristic majors and national excellent courses, the doctoral program and postdoctoral mobile station of the first-level discipline of preventive medicine, and the open laboratory of the first-level key disciplines and three key disciplines in Henan Province, the center has formed the experimental teaching characteristics of "one center, two aspects, three stages, and four combinations" (One center: to cultivate students' application and innovation ability as the center; Two aspects: for basic skills and for public health practice; Three stages: basic skills training stage, professional skills training stage, comprehensive application ability training stage; Four combinations: the combination of teaching, scientific research and social service, the combination of simulation and practical application, the combination of micro research and macro population survey, the combination of classical experimental methods and cutting-edge technology), 169 experimental projects have been opened, and the teaching workload has reached 70,000 person-hours per year.

In recent years, our institute has compiled the national preventive medicine unified experimental textbook "Epidemiology Practice Course", the national non-preventive medicine professional textbook (with internship guidance), "Epidemiology and Health Statistics", "Introduction to Hygiene", etc. The deputy editor-in-chief unit has compiled more than 10 national textbooks for preventive medicine, such as "Practical Guidance for Environmental Health", "Practical Guidance for Occupational Medicine", "Practical Guidance for Health Toxicology" and "Practical Guidance for Sanitary Analytical Chemistry".

In recent years, the teachers of the center have actively carried out some targeted experimental teaching reform and beneficial exploration, and the teachers have published more than 100 teaching reform papers, achieved more than 50 teaching reform achievements, and won more than 30 scientific research achievements in Henan Province. Through experimental teaching and special scientific research practice teaching, undergraduates have cultivated students' independent scientific research thinking ability, improved their experimental operation level and social adaptability, and achieved good teaching results. In the past three years, 10 undergraduates have won the first prize of the "Challenge Cup" in Henan Province, 12 have won the second prize, and 10 have won the third prize; It has been approved more than 100 college student innovation experiment projects, published 76 academic papers and 7 patents.

The center will continue to give full play to the leading role of the national experimental teaching demonstration center in the construction of laboratories, the reform of experimental teaching methods, the management mode and the construction of the teaching team, strive to build the center into a leading experimental teaching demonstration center in China, continue to enhance cooperation and exchanges at home and abroad, and provide an experimental and practical teaching platform for cultivating internationally competitive public health professionals.
